Compassionate Living is a new Rigpa course that introduces students to a complete picture of what compassion is, why it might be beneficial to us and the world around us, the possibility of training in a more wholesome way of being, and how we can go about that training.
This course allows students to:
- Gain knowledge and awareness by looking into different aspects of compassion—from their own point of view and experience, from a modern scientific point of view, as well as from the Buddhist perspective.
- Deepen and internalize their knowledge and understanding through personal analysis and reflection.
- Familiarize themselves with the experience of compassion and also establish the habit of compassion, through formal meditation practices as well as activities integrated into everyday life.
The course, which has been developed from the ancient tradition of Buddhist practitioners, is open to everyone wishing to explore this subject regardless of their beliefs. There are no prerequisites, but there is an expectation that students on this course will commit to a regular, daily compassion practice—recognizing that it is only through actually practicing the practices that the benefits are achieved.
Although kindness and compassion are basic human qualities, it is not always easy to embody them in our lives, especially in today’s hectic, fast-paced world.
The good news is that we can cultivate compassion, bringing major benefits for our health and well-being, and our relationships with family, friends and co-workers.
This course will present simple ways to develop our empathy and compassion for ourselves and those around us—at home, at work and in every aspect of our lives.
